Part of the settling in procedure at Norfolk House is to assign Reception children a ‘Buddy’ from Form 5 or Form 6 at the beginning of the year. The aim of this initiative is to provide support for the younger children as well as giving the older children opportunities to develop their caring skills. This scheme has been particularly successful; it is clear to see that the ‘Big Buddies’ are keen to help their younger buddies, whilst the Reception children look forward to working together during the Buddy sessions.
The most recent Buddy visit took place during Reception’s Going Places topic. The children were asked to look at holiday brochures and non-fiction books together in order to design and write a postcard.
