The creative arts are a very important part of the curriculum throughout the school.
Pupils in Junior Prep enjoy weekly art lessons, building on what they have learned in PrePrep.
Pupils begin exploring visual elements: line, tone, colour, pattern, space, texture, form. They also experience a wide range of materials in two and three dimensions and learn how to apply them using various techniques and processes. They engage in topic related projects and produce thoughtful, independent finished pieces.
Junior Prep pupils take part in regular assembly performances and are part of their own departmental production. Pupils in Form 3 have dedicated drama lessons, whilst it is encompassed throughout the curriculum for younger and older pupils. In addition, pupils in Form 3 will be introduced to ESB exams to develop their confidence in speaking before an audience.
In 2014 we introduced an exciting and innovative music curriculum, based on practical application of music linked to the topics studied in other areas of the curriculum. Our pupils learn to create compositions, and explore musical notation, musical textures and timbres whilst working collaboratively. They are exposed to a range of musical styles and traditions as well as using IT to explore music and music making. Children in Junior Prep are also invited to audition for the Junior Prep Choir, who come together weekly to learn new songs and improve their skills.
We also encourage our pupils to take up music lessons with one of our peripatetic teachers and to join our Junior ensemble.
