The Great Fire of London - Form 1

Posted on: July 7th 2017

This term Form One's topic was the Great Fire of London. This engaging topic proved to be very popular and the children demonstrated much enthusiasm and interest throughout. The topic was taught across the curriculum; in English, history, art and ICT. This cross-curricular approach was effective in capturing their interest and extending their understanding of this historic event. The children worked exceptionally hard to assemble and decorate Tudor houses which they then used to create their own version of Pudding Lane. They also used their crafting skills to make the boats that people used to escape the fire via the Thames. In English the children had the opportunity to pretend to be survivors of the fire and wrote imaginative recounts to describe their experience. They used Puppet Pals on the iPads to create and record an informative show using characters from the event such as Samuel Pepys and King Charles II. Well done Form 1!
