Promoting a culture of risk-taking and ambition is an important part of life at Norfolk House. Being brave enough to take on challenges where failure is an option, helps to not only develop a growth mindset, but is an important part of learning any new skill. We strive to give children the opportunity to challenge themselves in all aspects of school life, from the day-to-day lessons by co-creating their own success criteria and choosing their level of challenge, to experiences such as musical performances, sports fixtures and residential trips like PGL.
Last night, the Senior Prep children put on an outstanding performance of Matilda, with incredibly ambitious musical numbers and a complex script, worthy of a West End show. Their bravery to stand up and perform challenging solos and duets was astonishing! For the Form 6 pupils who played the main roles, it certainly was the pinnacle of their musical and dramatic careers at our school. What has been more amazing is witnessing their journey to this point and remembering back when they were taking their first steps onto the stage in younger years. Having the opportunity to take risks and have a go, even if it isn’t perfect, lays the foundations for the accomplished performances we were awed by yesterday.
The collaboration between the staff and children is central to this success, so I would like to thank all the staff who were involved in Matilda and all the other experiences that push the children out of their comfort zones to help them grow.
