Book Sharing, Author Visits and Workshops to Celebrate Books and Reading

Posted on: December 13th 2012

Last week the children took part in a series of events to celebrate books and reading - our curriculum focus, this term.

Gemma Malley, author of popular books such as ‘The Declaration’ and ‘The Resistance’, visited KS2 to talk about her own writing, and also provided invaluable tips to the children on how they could enhance their own story writing. Some of the children were so inspired that they have already started writing their own novels at home!

Nell Pheonix also ran story telling workshops for the children in KS1, which were highly engaging and thoroughly enjoyed by all.

On Friday, we ran a book sharing morning. All of the children in KS1 brought in a favourite book to share with a KS2 buddy. This was a great opportunity for our older children to provide reading models for their younger peers and they were pleasantly surprised by the reading ability of the younger children!

Finally, thank you to all  who supported the Book Sale after school on Friday; it was great to see the children so excited by the books on offer. Happy reading to you all!
