As we all know this term has been a bit of a nightmare for interschool competition, so I am really pleased to share this report from Tomer Eden, one of our chess coaches. He and Shane McCabe have worked really hard with our chess teams all the way through lockdown and have even run some distance training sessions.
On Saturday 28th November, Norfolk House competed in an exciting Online Premier Chess Coaching schools tournament coming 4th out of a strong group of six. I saw some very good chess from the team with all nine players contributing at least one win for the Norfolk House team.
Some of the squad attended a zoom call together and demonstrated their total concentration and focus:
Here is a spectacular finish to one of the games;
In this position Elliot is already doing great, a whole queen up, but he demonstrates some outstanding technique to finish the game off with the next move Qb5 cutting off the black King from escape!
And follows up Qb5 with Nf7 checkmate! An exciting checkmate using his knight!!
A very cool checkmate indeed!
Thank you to all the children that played and we look forward to the next tournament in the Spring term!
Best Regards,
Tomer Eden
