We are the Senior Prep Eco Warriors, this year we are working towards achieving the Green Flag Eco Award. We would like to outline the process of this and the actions we will be taking as a school.
Firstly, we would like to tell you about the Environmental Review that we had to complete. This asked us a series of questions and helped us assess what we are doing well and what we need to improve upon. The review was split into different topics; biodiversity, energy, global citizenship, healthy living, litter, marine, school grounds, transport, waste and water. We were really successful in some areas, for example, global citizenship and healthy living. We have attached our review for you to read.
From the Environmental Review we then created the Action Plan which focused on the three areas we needed to improve the most and we then created targets to achieve this. We have attached the Action Plan for you to read.
So, as you can see one of the targets is to reduce our plastic at school. This is a target that we really need your help with so here are some Eco Warrior tips for you.
Snacks and lunch boxes:
Instead of cling film you can use beeswax/ kitchen roll/smaller tupperware which can go in the dishwasher and is more environmentally friendly.
Please do not use plastic cutlery, we have plenty in school for you to use.
Here is a great example of a lunch box!
Ideas to reduce plastic for birthdays:
Homemade cakes and snacks are a great way to reduce plastic.
Smarties are wrapped in cardboard so are a quick swap away from plastic.
Local bakeries are great for plastic free birthday treats ie Hummingbird Bakery, Krispy Kreme and Dunns.
We also made an eco warrior code to show what we are working towards and what being an ECO school means to us, it is an acronym for Earth.
Energy: use sensor lights and instead of turning the heating on wear a sweater.
Action: we must look after the environment and show that we care.
Recycle: we need to pick up litter and recycle, reduce and reuse our waste.
Together: we must work as a team to protect Earth and save our planet .We also need to work together to pick up litter so that we can do more.
Health: we need to walk/scooter if we can, because it's good for both us and the environment.
We abide by these rules for a brighter and more eco-friendly future. We will keep you posted with our progress, please keep an eye out for useful eco tips on the Instagram page and bulletin.
