Last week was our first ‘World Environment Day’. The day kicked off for all with an assembly run by the Eco Warriors for all year groups. Everyone came in dressed in green to raise money for the WWF. The children learnt all about the different types of pollution and the focus of this year of ‘air pollution’. Many children shared how they were being environmentally friendly at home.
Over the course of the week, all classes went out into the local area armed with litter pickers, gloves and paper sacks. Children were concerned with the amount of rubbish, especially the amount of plastic, they were able to find in such a small area. The residential streets had more than three times the amount that could be found on the Broadway.
Looking forward, we as a school are committed to trying to reduce our single-use plastics, paper, and general waste. A few examples of the changes we have made so far are:
This is just the start of our plans for the future and as David Attenborough and Greta Thunberg have said, "No one is too small to make a difference."
