On Tuesday, 3rd November, Form 1 set off on their eagerly-awaited trip to the Museum of Childhood in Bethnal Green. The visit was organised to support our current History topic (Toys) and allowed the pupils to see items dating back hundreds of years (such as the earliest rocking horses), as well as more recent examples of toys, such as dolls’ houses and Teddy Bears.
In addition to display cases, there were more interactive elements, such as a display of light and texture and a “seaside” area where the children enjoyed putting on their own puppet shows and playing in the sand. They also loved playing on the rocking horses and “cooking” in an old-fashioned kitchen.
After lunch, pupils were treated to a “Toys on a Timeline” workshop, examining popular toys that would have been familiar to their parents and grandparents. They also had the opportunity to play with these games, for example, magnetic fishing and Tiddly-Winks.
Children and staff had a wonderful day out, successfully combining learning and play in a fun atmosphere.
