Form 2 visit Kew Gardens

To support them with their Plants topic in Science, Form 2 had the opportunity to visit Kew Gardens, this week. The children have been carrying out lots of exciting activities in their Science lessons, which include planting their own seeds and analysing their growth process. They have also been using their skills learnt in Art lessons to do some observational drawings of plants, so they were very much looking forward to the trip.

Form 2 stayed in separate form classes and class 2O were eagerly waiting for Emily, the specialist, to deliver an exciting Plant Scientist session. The two classes met up at lunchtime to share their experiences as they sat on the grass overlooking the beautiful plants that surrounded them. Form 2 were very lucky with firstly, the weather, and secondly, with the introduction of the most amazing glass sculpture displays by Chihuli, surreptitiously placed all around Kew Gardens. So as well as pretending to be in the moist, warm climate in the tropics in the Palm Greenhouse, and living the dream in the Temperate House, Form 2 also fell in love with these beautiful sculptures. The Plant Scientist sessions were informative and hands-on. Form 2 also enjoyed learning outside in the beautiful grounds of Kew Gardens, sharing some of their outdoor learning with some very curious geese! Read some comments from Form 2 about the day:

Shiv S: “I liked when we went in the rainforest greenhouse. It was so hot and tropical, it felt like we were in a real-life rainforest.”

Elli P: “I loved seeing the glass sculptures. I thought that they looked so beautiful and cool. We had to make sure that we only looked at them even though it was tempting to want to touch it!”
