Form 6 visit to RAF Museum

Posted on: February 25th 2011

On February 10th, Form 6 enjoyed a great day out at the RAF Museum in Hendon. The children experienced “Life in the Blitz”, by participating in a workshop where they made their own gas mask boxes. They also got the opportunity to handle authentic World War 2 objects such as stirrup pumps and gas masks.

After an in-role talk by an ARP Warden, pupils took refuge in an Anderson Shelter during a mock air raid. They were then able to try on World War 2 RAF uniforms.

Following the “Battle of Britain Sound and Light” show, four of our would-be pilots had their stomachs churned in a flight simulator, while others inspected aircraft such as Hurricanes and Spitfires.

It was a fun and informative ending to our History topic.
