Form of the Week: Busy Bees Form 5

Posted on: February 14th 2014

What a super busy half term this has been. We have worked incredibly hard and I am so proud of all the effort the children have put in this term! Here are some of our highlights...

PSHE - Muswell Hill Soup Kitchen

For the past four weeks, we have been visiting the Muswell Hill Soup Kitchen as part of our PSHE curriculum focus of Citizenship and making a positive contribution toward society. The children were split into three groups and performed three different tasks each week. One group was responsible for chopping the vegetables, one for cooking the main meal and one for setting out the tables and buttering the bread. The children have really enjoyed this experience and were very keen to get stuck in and help out.

English - Reading Comprehension

Reading comprehension is a particularly important aspect of the Year 5 English curriculum and we have been thinking of interesting ways in which we can respond to texts. After collaborative reading of a text called ‘The Mysterious Postcard’, the children used the video camera function on the iPad to record answers to different types of questions. Their recordings were then put into iMovie, to create a video representation of inferences about a text.

Maths - The Cowboy Game

And finally in Maths, my class particularly loves to end their lesson with The Cowboy Game. Mr. Ashton gives the children a series of quick fire questions which test their mental capabilities and improve the speed of mental calculation skills. Competition is fierce and it’s always an interesting end to the lesson.
