Half Term Sports Round Up

We have enjoyed another busy fortnight of Sports, with the Senior Prep girls playing a number of fixtures and the Year 4 boys playing their first Contact Rugby match.

Senior Prep Girls Football

The Senior Prep girls have had a busy couple of weeks packed full of fixtures. First, we hosted Avon House School at Powerleague on Friday 5th October. Each school had four teams so we were able to play a round robin of fixtures, ensuring that all girls played an extensive amount of Football.

What success our girls had - we won six out of the nine games played, one game with an incredible score of 9 - 0. I was so proud of how all the girls played and they displayed fantastic sportsmanship throughout the afternoon.

On Monday 8th October we travelled to Highgate School for another successful afternoon of Football. Again the girls played with determination and resilience. We came away with a draw, with one win and one loss. Ella B and Sophie A were nominated the players of the match.

A fantastic effort from all the girls who have played and thank you to all the parents who came out to support.

Year 4 Rugby match vs. The Haberdashers' Aske's Boys' School

The Year 4s had their first ever Contact Rugby match on Tuesday 2nd October. This is a big step up for them from Tag Rugby in Year 3 and they were really excited about the prospect of going to The Haberdashers' Aske's Boys' School for a game.

All boys from Year 4 had the opportunity to play and we even had a few Year 3s make the step up!

With 14 of our 18 Year 4 boys electing to play, we had to split into two teams to face the opposition. Our team talk focussed on our three PE aims - enjoyment, participation and the importance of improving. Enjoyment was certainly evident, with smiles and a few laughs all round.

Every boy played an equal amount, but what Mr Smith and I weren’t expecting was the improvement and quality of the boys’ performance.

We stressed the importance of defending well and making our tackles count - this can be hard for boys who haven’t played before and against a team they haven’t seen before, but I was hugely surprised by our boys’ tenacity and bravery in the tackle area. We set a target of five tackles each and most boys surpassed that total in the first couple of minutes.

In team Awesome, Oscar C and Oscar P, Yash G and George D made massive numbers of tackles - Oscar C made five in a row at one point!

In team Brilliant, Antonis P, Kyran F and one of our Year 3 superstars - Felix W - were similarly impressive!

I’m not a big believer in the importance of results, but our boys were really pleased to finish with team Awesome winning by one try and team Brilliant losing by one try. Both results show how close and exciting the matches were.

Well played to our rugby stars - Alfred P, Antonis P, Edward Ki, Felix W, George D, Kyran F, Magnus B, Max S, Maxim K, Munro T, Oscar C, Oscar P, Otis M, Sol A, Toby P, William B and Yash G.
