On the final week of the Autumn term, children in Forms 1 to 6 took part in the ‘Hour of Code’ event as part of International Computer Science Week; the aim of which is to raise the profile of coding within schools. To build a positive coding atmosphere, posters were put up around the school with coding memes and QR codes; you could hear the children giggling as they wandered past each meme.
The children were given the opportunity to build a Star Wars Galaxy with code, build algorithms to code Frozen’s Anna and Elsa, or at a more challenging level, code a sprite dog using javascript. I was particularly amazed by the resilience that the children showed when creating, testing and debugging their programs.
If the children are already exposed to such a well-rounded IT curriculum now, imagine what our children will be coding in 10 years time?
