On Saturday 7th May the Senior Ensemble gathered together at the United Reformed Church in Tetherdown, Muswell Hill for the North London Chamber Music competition. Norfolk House Senior Ensemble consists of Oliver Chan (piano), Daniel Canwell (violin) Zac Carter (violin), Max Greenwood (violin),Saul Vale-Harris (viola), Sasha Greenwood (violin) and Caspar Priest (French horn).
The excitement rose as we gathered in the practice room to tune up and play through their piece a few times. The children were playing the James Bond theme tune, arranged by Sara Regan. Feeling confident and well prepared, the Ensemble took their places at the front of the church. Parents, adults and children smiled as the first notes were played. The James Bond theme tune is such an iconic piece that the audience recognised it immediately! The Senior Ensemble played with enthusiasm and enjoyment and represented Norfolk House School marvellously.
After the Senior Ensemble played their piece, there were five other groups that played in the Competition, and there was a huge variety of instruments represented, including cellos, brass instruments and a few flutes. Everyone played very well; the standard of the music played at the competition was very high! Saul Vale-Harris and Sophie Kirstein were representing a Music school that they play for on Saturday mornings and they came second in the competition- well done!
Norfolk House were awarded with a certificate and "Commended" by the adjudicators for their hard work and their performance. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their performance and the Senior Ensemble were proud of themselves, well done everyone! We look forward to following the ensemble on their exciting journey and hearing their progress next year. A big thank you to Sara Regan for leading the Ensemble, entering the children in the competition and providing them with opportunities to perform. Thank you also to all the parents who support their children whole heartedly. Last of all, a special mention to Jasenka Greenwood who helped with tuning up instruments and administration.
