Pupils enjoy assembly and writing workshop with author Dan Freedman

Posted on: December 2nd 2011

Today, Key Stage 2 were very lucky to be visited by the author Dan Freedman who ran a special assembly about his writing. Dan spoke to the children about how he used his passion for football to build a career in football journalism, following the England football team around the world. He explained how this journey led him to using his real life experiences to become a successful football fiction writer.

Following the assembly, Dan ran a writing workshop for Form 6, sharing his top tips for writing with the children, before giving them the opportunity to continue writing from a significant point in one of his books. Dan was extremely impressed with the quality of the children's writing, giving them very positive feedback.

When asked to think about what they had found valuable about the author's visit, Sophia said, 'I found it really inspiring for an author to come into school and find out about where his inspiration comes from.' Joe also said, 'I thought it was very helpful as we now know, from a real author's perspective, how to make our stories successful.'
