As part of our new community outreach project here at Norfolk House and to help demonstrate our core values of being caring and open-minded, pupils are enjoying making regular visits to The Meadow Care Home in Muswell Hill.
The initial visits to the Care Home, which began in February, have proved to be a great success for all concerned. The children who first volunteered to visit elderly residents (Emily, Cristina, Bibi, Sophie, Bobby, Max, Eva and Leonard), have greatly impressed staff and residents alike, as well as Mrs Gormley and Mrs Duffy, who have been organising and leading the weekly visits. Feedback from the Home has been hugely positive and a new group of children will begin the second phase of visits next week.
The activities in which pupils have participated to date include singing, flower arranging, arts and crafts, table tennis and bingo. Leonard also played the piano for residents, which was extremely well received. The pleasure the residents gain from the children’s interactions is genuinely moving and the pupils’ responses at the end of the visits so far, have summed up everyone’s feelings - Max described how he “felt proud when he saw a resident smile” and Emily said her dream job was to work in a care home and she had been “inspired” by her experiences.
