Queenswood Poetry Competition

Just before the May half term, Queenswood School kindly invited us to submit poems from our Form 4 and Form 5 children on the theme of 'Celebration' for their annual competition. We were all incredibly impressed with the standard of work across both year groups and after much deliberation, our shortlisted superstar poets were Lilja, Lala and Leonardo in Form 5 and Elliot and Ruby from Form 4 who we celebrated royally and awarded house points to in our assembly.

Queenswood then invited three of the children, Lilja, Lala and Ruby, to join them at the school as finalists as part of their Young Writer's Activity Morning on Wednesday 22nd June.  All three girls should feel so proud to be recognised as such talented writers and it was a real honour for them to be selected. The teachers in their English Department were so impressed with their poems and both Lilja and Ruby attended the event as you can see in the pictures attached.

Both girls had the chance to join in with some fun poetry activities with Professor Pango Mango and there was a ceremony to hand out prize books and certificates for all three of our finalists. But just when you think it can't get any better, Lilja in Form 5 was announced as the overall winner of the whole competition out of the six schools that attended! We are so proud of her and her win was really well deserved as her poem was gorgeous and really emotive as you can see below:

Caroline, who is in charge of admissions at Queenswood, contacted us after the event to say:

"It was so lovely to have the children with us yesterday and to hear all their poems after their workshop.  They all looked like they had a great time and hopefully enjoyed it as much as the staff did! Lilja's poem was so lovely and everyone in the English department agreed it was the winning entry."

Lilja was even featured in the Queenswood Newsletter so we have a literary celebrity in our midst here at Norfolk House!

Thank you to Queenswood for giving our children such a fabulous opportunity and to the parents and grandparents who accompanied the children to the event.

What a brilliant end to a year of fabulous creative writing and roll on next year's competition!
