Queenswood Poetry Competition

For the past few years, the English department at Queenswood School have kindly invited Norfolk House pupils to submit entries for their summer poetry competition. This year, their theme was ‘Freedom,’ which could be interpreted however the children wished, and Form 5 rose to the challenge of composing an original poem of no longer than 20 lines.

The poems were written completely independently and everyone who entered should be congratulated on their wonderfully creative and imaginative efforts. Special mentions go to the following children for being our eight selected entries:

- Sophie
- Zoe
- Harry C
- Aran
- Maya
- Cristina
- Max
- Jacob

To add even more excitement this year, our three best poets, as selected by the English department at Queenswood, have been invited to participate in a Young Writers’ Activity afternoon as part of the Queenswood Literary Festival. The lucky finalists will be spending the afternoon absorbed in a poetry workshop with the performance poet, Professor Pango Mango, before the big reveal of the overall winner by Carnegie Medal-nominated author, Catherine Johnson.

Huge congratulations to our finalists Maya, Jacob and Cristina - we are so proud of your efforts and your wonderful writing skills.

Look out for a follow-up news item charting their experiences at Queenswood and you can read their amazing poems below:
