Senior Choir workshop with Natalie Williams

Pupils in the Senior Choir were delighted to be joined by world-renowned soul-jazz vocalist Natalie Williams for a recent workshop and special concert performance.

Natalie, who holds a residency at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club and tours the globe both as a soloist and support artist for the likes of Herbie Hancock, wrote the song ‘Extraordinary’ for a 22 date arena tour across the UK as Featured Artist and Composer for Young Voices, performing her work alongside 8,000 children every night.

The Senior Choir collaborated with Natalie on her song during a vocal workshop, working on their performance skills, voice development and word clarity, before performing Natalie’s composition together at the Harvest Festival concert.

Head of Music, Sara Regan, said: “Music is an important part of school life here at Norfolk House. 60% of pupils in Years 2 to 6 are in the school’s two choirs and take part in regular festivals, competitions and performances. This year, the school’s Senior Choir and Senior Ensemble were both awarded first prize in the ‘11 years and under’ sections of the North London Festival and the choir were even awarded the festival sponsor’s prize for Most Outstanding Choir in all sections.”

“Collaborating with artists like Natalie Williams inspires us to reach new levels of achievement in Music and supports the school’s core values of instilling ambition and resilience, whilst bringing the joy and discipline of music making into the heart of pupils’ learning.”
