Earlier this year, the whole of Senior Prep took part in a composition project, learning how to work lyrics into harmony and adding their creativity. This was a project that developed a significant amount of transferable skills; working in small groups, learning to compromise, to listen to one another’s ideas, and developing the sensitivity to create a fertile space where ideas could blossom and grow into something bigger through collaboration.
This project also gave our students the opportunity to express themselves and to work their feelings into something artistic and audible- a very important outlet at a time when the mental health of our children is so precious. I am always reminded, when working with this age group, how broad and often grown up the things on their minds are, and it was a privilege to work with such a colourful range of talent on this project.
