The new Infant Community children have all been settling in really well over the last two weeks. They have been getting to know their teachers and friends, as well as learning their names, while joining in with the 'Welcome song'. They have sat beautifully on the mat during circle time and some have chosen the song to sing and joined in with the actions.
They have all been learning the routine of the morning and they are enjoying time in our garden, exploring all the equipment we have to offer and getting to know the garden rules. Luckily, the weather has been kind to us with some bright sunny mornings and the children have had fun exploring the mud kitchen, trying out the balancing beams and stepping stones, as well as having a go on all of the ride-on equipment.
Each child has done some work for the display boards, making a face by sticking eyes, nose, ears and a mouth onto a face, then colouring them in. They have also been making hand prints for the display board. They really enjoyed this activity, experiencing the texture of the cold paint on their hands, and loved the effect of the hand print on the paper.
All of these activities help the children with their creative development and expose them to new media. Following instructions, waiting for their turn and working one to one with an adult also help the children with their social and emotional experiences.
