Our first fixture of the year was a runaway success. We entered the Haringey Schools Cross Country meet on 18th September. This was a huge event with over 200 runners in both the male and female age groups. We took every Year 4, 5 and 6 runner that had tried out for our Cross Country team for the Under 11 run. You can imagine their dismay when they found out that they were going to run at the same time as the Under 13, Under 15 and Under 18 children as well! They were reminded that our aims are simple: 1 - have fun and 2 - run as hard as you can. Their placing in the group doesn’t matter as long as they have enjoyed their run and did their best.
The girls went first and whilst it was clear that they were intimidated by some very big girls (and a couple of Norfolk House alumni), they did brilliantly. In some ways, the boys had a tougher time as some of the runners were well over six foot tall! All the boys and girls should be really proud of their performances and there were lots of tired, smiling faces at the end.
As a guide to our performance, our last girl came in 125th out of 210 and our last boy was 169th out of 209. Both of these children are in Year 4, so they both beat lots of runners at least two years older than themselves.
Our top three performers were:
Girls: Izzy R (53rd - Year 4), Emma P (57th - Year 4) and Emily C (101st - Year 5)
Boys: George D (50th - Year 4), Harris T (68th - Year 6) and Max S (77th - Year 4).
Our boys team came 7th out of 18 teams and the girls came 8th out of 18 teams.
Thank you to Marcus Craven and Katie Embleton for helping to train our runners, and extra thanks to Katie who donated the running strip to the school.
Our runner team was (including those listed above): Antonis P, Aaron F, Milo T, Oskar T, Sidney E, Emily K, Oscar F, Ella B, Imogen T, Alanna F, Akash D, Dillan S, Otis M, Harry C and Munro T.
