Norfolk House School 41st Annual Chess Tournament

Posted on: March 13th 2015 | Category:

I had the pleasure of hosting our Annual chess tournament at St Andrews last Wednesday. Unfortunately, one of the eight teams were unable to attend at the last minute, luckily we had entered 2 teams so in order for all the children to get a game we proceeded with a rota of play.

There were 3 rounds - teams were matched against each other based on scores achieved for each round.

Certificates, medals and the shield were given by Jonathan Hawkins, Britain’s newly minted Grandmaster and the current British Chess Champion.

Unsurprisingly, the winning team were the The Hall (coached by Jonathan Hawkins!) who won 11 out of their 12 games. Norfolk House came 5th with 3 and a half points. Although we were up against some tough opposition, I am always impressed with the attitude and the behaviour of our pupils at such events, it was an enjoyable afternoon. Thank you to the players Oliver Chan, Charlotte Chan, Roman Priest, Jaymin Murray-Patel, Maria Redko, Fredric Hirsig, Jack Osler and Alex Sergeant.
